"Prague is one of my all time favorite cities" |
Czech Republic
Since the city was not bombed during World War II, the cobblestone streets and buildings are still intact from the past. Prague is quite beautiful with the old, yet in certain ways is a very upscale city. It is a great walking city. The city is divided by the Vltava River . The right and left bank is connected by the famous Charles Bridge. The Czech people are very warm and the city is not as expensive as some of the other European cities.
Prague was a center of intellectualism. Music is everywhere in Prague . There are many daily concerts at the churches and synagogues. The concerts usually last one hour and are throughout the day. There are walking tours galore. I liked the Kafka tour and could feel his presence in Prague . The Prague Castle is a must with its series of buildings, churches and hundred of years of history. The view of the city is spectacular. I took the tram up to the Castle and then walked down. The Jewish Quarter (Josefov) with its synagogues and cemetery is a must for people of all religions.
I also went to Teresin for the day. It is a somber and sobering experience but well worth it. There are many museums in Prague . My favorite is the Mucha Museum which exhibits about a hundred of his paintings, drawings and pastels. He is a Czech-French art nouveau artist. The last must and this is really a must is the Municipal House and Concert Hall. It is Prague 's most famous Art Nouveau building. You have to take a tour. The interior is decorated by Czech artists and mostly by Alphons Mucha. The building has beautiful stained glass windows and paintings, sculptures and wonderful furniture. Each room is spectacular and the concert hall is quite unbelievable.
People in Prague like to have a good time. There are many delicious restaurants. Visiting Prague will definitely stay with you for a life time.
