Portugal 's second largest city, Porto, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Palaces and Churches are Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Neo-Classic. It is situated on the Douro River with miles of vineyards growing on its slopes. Porto is actually a city of old and new. Drive to the heart of Portugal through the Estrela Mountain Range. This is the highest point in Portugal and is where sheep roam. This area is famous for its cheeses. Then go onto Evora, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This town is famous for its history, handicrafts and food. Then onto the Algarve which is one of Europe 's unique jewels. It is Portugal 's most southern province. It is famous for its spectacular scenery, 24 great golf courses, and fine regional cooking. Winters are mild in the Algarve and people play golf year round. In addition to golf, there is surfing, scuba diving, tennis, horseback riding, and clay pigeon shooting. This is truly a place to relax and to participate in many sports activities. However, all of Portugal is a very interesting historical and architectural country. You can also take cycling, wine and culinary tours. The food is delicious.
